Source\u00a0: Femto-ST<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Des chercheurs de Femto-ST viennent de d\u00e9montrer un nouveau processus \u00e0 faible empreinte \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique pour dissocier des mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote, une \u00e9tape d\u00e9cisive pour la production d\u00e9carbon\u00e9e de mol\u00e9cules \u00e0 haute valeur ajout\u00e9e. La synth\u00e8se industrielle de l\u2019ammoniac \u00e0 partir des mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote repr\u00e9sente 2\u00a0% de la consommation mondiale en \u00e9nergie car cette synth\u00e8se requiert des pressions et des temp\u00e9ratures tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9es (200 fois la pression atmosph\u00e9rique, 600\u00b0C). Le d\u00e9veloppement de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s peu \u00e9nergivores de dissociation des mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote est un enjeu majeur de la transition \u00e9cologique. Pour d\u00e9velopper ce type de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s, il est essentiel de comprendre les m\u00e9canismes \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires qui provoquent la dissociation de ces mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote. Dans le cadre du projet OVATION, financ\u00e9 par l\u2019agence nationale de la recherche, ChimieParisTech et Femto-ST ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les atomes de silicium poss\u00e8dent la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 dissocier ces mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote \u00e0 temp\u00e9rature ambiante et sous des pressions tr\u00e8s faibles (inf\u00e9rieures \u00e0 la pression atmosph\u00e9rique). Ce r\u00e9sultat a \u00e9t\u00e9 obtenu en utilisant un microscope \u00e0 effet tunnel (STM). En ajustant les conditions exp\u00e9rimentales, les chercheurs ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les atomes de silicium pouvaient transf\u00e9rer des \u00e9lectrons aux mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote et ainsi provoquer leur dissociation. Apr\u00e8s avoir r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer un nouveau type de dissociation des mol\u00e9cules d\u2019azote, il faut franchir la seconde \u00e9tape qui consiste \u00e0 former la mol\u00e9cule d\u2019ammoniac. Ceci n\u00e9cessite de faire r\u00e9agir des mol\u00e9cules d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne dans l\u2019enceinte du microscope STM.
