Le graph\u00e8ne Kagom\u00e9 est constitu\u00e9 d&#8217;un r\u00e9seau de triangles de carbone qui forment une structure en treillis. Cependant son caract\u00e8re naturellement semi-conducteur emp\u00eache un contr\u00f4le pr\u00e9cis de ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s avec un champ \u00e9lectrique, limitant ainsi son potentiel pour des applications en \u00e9lectronique et en spintronique. Les chercheurs ont synth\u00e9tis\u00e9 une version modifi\u00e9e du graph\u00e8ne Kagom\u00e9 contenant des groupes carbonyle (C=O) et ont expos\u00e9 cette structure \u00e0 de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne atomique, avant de chauffer l\u2019ensemble pour transformer ces groupes en radicaux CH. En ma\u00eetrisant la densit\u00e9 et la distribution des radicaux, on pourrait concevoir des dispositifs capables de manipuler le spin des \u00e9lectrons \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle nanom\u00e9trique.
